Osteopathic Physicians Day 2007
On March 7, 2007 the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society held
its 3rd annual Osteopathic Physicians Day at the State Capitol.
The event was a huge success. IOMS' timing was particularly
appropriate because Governor Blagojevich presented his annual
budget message outlining his plan for universal health care
called "Illinois Covered." Thirty-seven participants, including
DOs from across Illinois (including 5 IOMS Trustees and 1 AOA
Trustee), CCOM medical students, guests and staff, heard from
IOMS' state capitol lobbyist and AOA's Manager of State
Government Affairs, among others. Speakers also included DO
leaders, the Deputy Director for Women's Health, and the
Governor, whose live TV address was shown during the luncheon.
Other activities held during this State Lobby Day were a Board
meeting, presentations to IOMS' House & Senate Legislators of
the Year, a meeting of the SCOPE Board of Directors (IOMS'
political action committee), and a half-day CME program. Capping
off the day was IOMS' most successful Legislative Reception to
date, with 40 Legislators of both parties and both chambers
attending along with the Director of the Illinois Department of
Healthcare and Family Services. Sponsors of this event included
IOMS, the Illinois Chapter of the ACOFP, Development & Alumni
Relations for Midwestern University/CCOM, and Sanofi-Aventis
Pharmaceutical Company. | |
