LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY
Supreme Court Overturns “Pain & Suffering” Caps
On Thursday, February 4, 2010, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that legislatively-mandated caps on non-economic damages, such as pain and suffering, are unconstitutional under the State Constitution. This overturns a hard-won tort reform enacted in 2005 when Illinois physicians were leaving Illinois or retiring from practice in significant numbers due to excessive medical malpractice insurance rates, among other reasons. IOMS will be working with physician colleagues, hospitals, and patient-access-to-quality-care advocates to address this, and we need everyone’s help. Join us on February 17th or March 23rd or April 21st in Springfield to make DO voices heard on this critical issue.

New Illinois State Laws Will Affect You and Your Practice. Several new laws went into effect on January 1, 2010 that may affect YOU, either personally or in your practice. Click here to see a quick list, culled from a list provided by Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno and her staff.

HIGH QUALITY CME

Click here for details on the 4th annual Spring CME in the City, jointly offered by IOMS and the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. It will be Friday, March 26 – Saturday, March 27 at the Osteopathic Conference Center at AOA Headquarters, 142 E. Ontario Street (just off the Magnificent Mile).

Thank you to all who attended the 2009 IOMS Winter Scientific Seminar in early December. CME hours were sent in December to the AOA Division of Continuing Medical Education and will be posted as earned in the 2007-2009 CME cycle – it may take AOA another 2-4 weeks to finish processing these into your records. Certificates of CME earned were mailed in early January – please contact IOMS if you have not received your certificate.

Save these dates, your membership dues make these services and more possible.
