Dear IOMS
Member:
We are
asking you to assist the profession in building the Osteopathic Emergency
Response System. This response system will enable the profession to answer
the call in the event of a local or national emergency.
By way of
background, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) House of Delegates
passed a Resolution proposed by the Osteopathic Physician and Surgeons of
Oregon during the 2000 AOA Annual Meeting. The resolution called for the
AOA to lead the development and implementation of an Emergency Response
System that could be implemented across the osteopathic community in the
event of acts of terrorism or natural disasters.
More
recently, the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, and the subsequent acts of
bio-terrorism through the United States Postal Service have demonstrated
clearly the need for this sort of initiative. Today, we are proud to
introduce the Osteopathic Emergency Response System to you and ask your
help in building it.
In
recognition that most emergency situations are best managed at a local
level, the AOA asked the cooperation of the Association of Osteopathic
State Executive Directors (AOSED) in developing this plan. The result is
the enclosed is a physician response form.
Please
complete this form and
return it so that we can add your name to our database of volunteer
physicians. Periodically, we may ask you to resubmit your name to ensure
the accuracy of our database. We hope that the compilation of this data
will assist IOMS in doing our part in emergency situations.
Please
forward your completed form to:
